CLIMATE

Spring and summer (September to February) are hot so wear cool clothing.
Autumn and winter (March to August) are mild to warm so light to medium weight clothes are useful.
The Western Australian sun is very intense and can be harmful to your skin. To avoid sunburn and skin damage take the following steps:

  • Before you go outside apply SPF 15+ broad spectrum, water-resistant sunscreen to all areas except those that will be covered by highly protective clothing all the time you are outside.
  • Make sure you take extra SPF 15+ sunscreen, a broad-brimmed hat, a long-sleeved shirt with a collar, and long pants.
  • Cover yourself with clothing as much as possible, especially in the middle of the day.
  • If you are snorkelling or swimming, make sure that your back and all other exposed areas are well covered by sunscreen.
  • If there is any shade available, use it. The deeper the shade the better. Sunscreen is available from supermarkets and pharmacies.
